When I arrived home just the other day, I was greeted by the sight of my Mauve Dancing Ladies ... well that's the common name for these fabulous plants anyway.
Globba winitti is a member of the Ginger or Zingiberaceae family, and my one and only plant is blooming. I just adore these stunning inflourescences with their mauve bracts and yellow flowers.

Hi Bernie, glad you're back after a month of hiatus! That is an awesome dance they are doing, my first time to see this ginger daughter's flowers and this Genus. Thanks God for the Scientific names we don't get mixed up, because our dancing lady is the Oncidium. I guess they are really performing a different dance because yours look different in morphology than the Oncidium flowers.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the welcome back, Kalantikan. Common names can cause such confusion can't they? I know the Orchid you're referring to, and it's also called Dancing Lady here. The other common name for this Globba is 'Thai Beauty'.
DeleteThis is new to me and what a nice name for it. :)
ReplyDeleteIndrani, it certainly is a lovely thing. Such a beautiful Ginger.
DeleteI love these dancing ladies, they are just gorgeous. I never saw them when I lived in North Qld but I was much younger and had not become interested in gardening.
ReplyDeleteI agree that they are simply gorgeous blooms, Shirley. Originally from Thailand, they have only become available here in the last five to six years or so. The first time I saw one in a nursery, I knew it would be coming home with me.
DeletePretty and amazing one!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week ahead.
Thanking you for visiting and leaving your kind comment, Regina.
DeleteThese are beautiful flowering plants Bernieh, so colourful. Great to be back home, I know what you mean.
ReplyDeleteMarguerite, while I did enjoy the time spent with my eldest son and my grandchildren, there's nothing quite like being in your own home! Glad you enjoyed the Dancing Ladies.
DeleteSo beautiful! Hope you'll find time to visit my Hibiscus.
ReplyDeleteI'll definitely take a look, Modern Mom. Thanks for popping by again.
DeleteI just bought one of these from my local nursery yesterday, Bernie. They are just gorgeous. I already have a smaller relation Globba capicola 'Golden Dragon'. Now I just have to work out where to plant my new addition. (Took a few photos today, but yours are much better!)
ReplyDeleteMarisa, I'm sure you'll be very pleased with your purchase. I haven't heard of the Globba capicola, so I'll look out for that one. 'Golden Dragon' sounds lovely.
DeleteThank you for sharing the beautiful flowers of dancing lady (Oncidium).
ReplyDeleteAwesome pictures!!
You're most welcome. I'm so glad you loved the photos. Guild-rez, this particular plant is not an Oncidium, but a Ginger. 'Dancing Lady' is a popular common name.
DeleteBernie ~ What a beautiful and wonderful bloom. Your gardens and blooms always inspire me.
ReplyDeleteFlowerLady
Flowerlady, the individual flowers do look lovely, but the garden as a whole looks really parched and dry right now. This is always such a hard time for the garden. I keep looking ahead to the rainy season now.
DeleteWelcome back. That sure is a stunning flower and I can see where it gets its common name. My garden has suffered in the drought and heat. It is so depressing.
ReplyDeleteThank you kindly for the welcome back, Diane. This is definitely one of those eye-catching blooms. I really need to get more!!
DeleteIt is depressing isn't it watching everything wither up and dry out. I've been down in Brissie for the past month, and things have certainly been dry down there. There were a few light showers of rain while I was there, but they barely touched the ground.
Up here it's Brownsville! Hopefully those rain clouds will turn up soon.
What a beauty and the flowers are pretty too! Welcome home missed you! Snow arriving here tonight!!!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! That's a very interesting flower.
ReplyDeleteI love that they are called dancing ladies --- how descriptive and how delightful!
ReplyDeleteThat is one of the most beautiful flowers I have ever seen...how special you have this growing.
ReplyDeleteWelcome back Bernie, I have never seen that flower before - she sure is pretty!
ReplyDeleteGood to have you back Bernie, and your Dancing Ladies look absolutely stunning!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty. Those are amazing!
ReplyDeletelol, it lookes really like dancing ladies :) thanx!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back! You were missed! Beautiful flowers!
ReplyDeleteHi Bernie, welcome back. You've introduced me to a flower I have never seen before. It's gorgeous! Thanks for sharing and have a great week :)
ReplyDeleteThat is such a beautiful flower that fits the name. I have never seen it before. Love it!
ReplyDeleteThat's an amazing flower, Bernie! I'd like to be able to grow something like that on my balcony! Only I imagine it wouldn't like the snow we are having this week!
ReplyDeleteBTW, welcome back!
