Another Interesting Spider ... The Year In Photographs ... June 27, 2013
O.K. so I've spotted another very interesting spider out in my courtyard garden this morning. I didn't notice it at all until I looked at one of my photos. Can you see it lucking behind the Angelonia flower stalk? Once I saw it in the photo, I rushed out to take some closer shots.
Take a closer look ... here it is.
I think it might be a White Flower Spider, also known as a White Crab Spider ... Thomisus spectabilis.
Can anyone I.D. this one for me?

Hi Bernie, I am not a big fan of spiders, I hope this little creature is harmless, I also remember seeing something very similar in the garden years ago.
ReplyDeleteThis one is quite harmless, Karen, although they can give you a nasty bite. I myself have a little bit of a reaction to most spider bites, but nothing too serious. I try to keep my distance from them as much as possible.
DeleteThat would freak me out.
ReplyDeleteJim, we get used to spiders and creepy crawlies up here in the north. You're never too far away from at least a few of them every day. Thankfully I don't see too many really nasty ones.
DeleteIt sure looks like a white crab. Quite cute for a spider.
ReplyDeleteIt is rather a good-looking thing isn't it? Hard to see though and a bit of a surprise when you finally spot it.
DeleteI've never seen a spider like that! Very interesting.
ReplyDeleteMissio, I haven't seen many of them around here, but maybe I just haven't looked closely enough before.
DeleteThis one looks much bigger Bernie!
ReplyDeleteYes, Jean, this one was definitely much bigger than the Jewel Spider. Still not all that huge when compared to other spiders we see around here though.
DeleteNever, ever seen such a spider Bernie! It's rather pretty really. The only spider I am truly terrified of is the 'white tail' - please tell me you haven't seen any of those up here!!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend.
R.
No, Rose, I haven't ever seen the White Tails here thankfully. I always have a bit of a reaction to spider bites, and definitely don't want to be bitten by a White Tail.
DeleteMuito interessate e até bonita .

Yes I have to agree with you there, Simone. It's rather a beautiful spider when you take a close look.
DeleteThat is a good name for that spider. It does look like a crab. Your Angelonia is so pretty. Mine are so slow to bloom this year. Not my best gardening year. LOL!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a crab spider all right. Ours change colors from white to yellow and back depending on the flower color...very cool spiders,
ReplyDeleteI.HATE.SPIDERS!!!!
ReplyDeleteBUT I've never seen a white spider before which doesn't help ;o)
