Mosaic Monday - A Garden Visitor.
I have been seeing quite a few of these butterflies in the last couple of weeks. This particular one caught my eye as it seemed to have a rather tattered wing on one side.
Thanks Lotusleaf ... it is a contrast of colours. I just visited your post about butterflies ... seems they're out and about in lots of places around the world.
Hi Lavinder Lady ... wishing you some warmer weather and butterflies soon!
I don't know what happened to it. You can see a big chunk missing in the photo on the top left side of the collage. It certainly seemed able to fly regardless.
The tattered wings could indicate an older butterfly or one caught in rain, their wings are thin and have miniscule wing scales which are pigmented with melanin giving them their colors. The wings are very delicate and can be damaged. Regardless the mosaic was beautiful, we will be getting our butterflies soon as the weather warms even more. Thanks for sharing:)
G'day Garden of Threads ... I was wondering if perhaps the wing was damaged by rain as we've been having quite a bit of that lately. Thanks for sharing your idea.
Hello Bernie - I love to visit here and see your beautiful butterflies! Ours have been out and about in force again too, enjoying some autumn blooms. I can't get enough of watching them flutter about :)
Butterflies also can be born this way. When we would observe butterflies coming out of the chrysalis, some would struggle and end up with a deformed wing or a bent leg. Beautiful pictures!
Hi Heidi ... yes it's always a great time of the year right now as there's quite a few butterflies fluttering every which way in the garden. I struggle to get photos of most of them though ... just not quick enough!
Aside from the nature value of these amazing photos, i just love the colors -- the delicate pink and black and white against the green backdrop. It's art!
How lucky you are to have butterflies to chase with the camera. These shots are beautiful. I'm eagerly awaiting the return of our butterflies to the garden. We've had a rainy morning and now gray skies for the afternoon. I hope your sunshine returns soon. Ours too :)
These butterflies visit my garden too. Black butterfly on pink pentas looks very pretty.
