November 28-29, 2015 ... end of Spring.November is our last Spring month and our Summer officially begins in two days. The conditions have already been quite summery for weeks now with daytime highs around 32 deg C and humidity levels rising to 60% in the middle of the day.
Our dry season continues on unabated and, despite a rather decent but very short-lived downpour of rain about two weeks ago, the surrounding bushland is BernieHhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04435004798656616711noreply@blogger.com17tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4481571533790905294.post-82864815676964852082015-10-03T14:04:00.000+10:002015-10-03T14:58:26.051+10:00What's On Show This Weekend ... October 3-4, 2015 ... mid-Spring.
Here we are in our mid-Spring month and about six months into our dry season. If you've read the latest post in my other blog (see the sidebar), you'll know that this year's dry has been harsh. I don't want to repeat myself but let's just say that a failed wet, long dry and starving wallabies have left my garden in tatters.
Thankfully there's still a few lovely things left to me BernieHhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04435004798656616711noreply@blogger.com30tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4481571533790905294.post-13984552406535153842015-09-30T10:47:00.000+10:002015-10-01T15:23:14.626+10:00Wildlife on Wednesday ... My Dry Season Visitors
Our dry season is in full swing now. It's been a long time since we received decent heavy ground-soaking rain. January saw some heavy rain fall from the skies above, but that was pretty much the end of our wet season. It's supposed to last for around three months. It didn't, and so the dry is far more pronounced this year.
We've had next to no rain fall since the end BernieHhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04435004798656616711noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4481571533790905294.post-66581153226865645562015-08-31T11:19:00.001+10:002015-10-03T11:13:37.222+10:00What's On Show This Weekend ... August 29-30, 2015 ... end of Winter.
Our wintertime is well and truly ended. It's been one of the warmest winters I can recall for quite some time, and given that tropical winters are usually very, very mild anyway, you could be forgiven for thinking we hadn't had a winter at all. Officially the last day of winter is tomorrow, August 31st, but the high-20C temps. over the last few weeks has meant it was over ages agoBernieHhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04435004798656616711noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4481571533790905294.post-76774800366220546262015-07-19T11:36:00.003+10:002015-10-03T11:13:19.494+10:00What's On Show This Weekend ... July 18-19, 2015 ... mid-Winter.
Well, old man Winter arrived in the tropics this past week. He bought some seriously cold nights and early mornings, and some gorgeous sunrises.
Mid-week it was down to between 7 and 9 deg C (44 - 48 F). That is COLD for the tropics. With very low humidity levels and dewpoints below 0, it was really, really, really cold. Usually, our overnight winter temps don'tBernieHhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04435004798656616711noreply@blogger.com12tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4481571533790905294.post-46887448079917361172015-07-12T21:25:00.003+10:002015-10-03T11:13:06.468+10:00What's On Show This Weekend ... July 11-12, 2015 ... mid-Winter.The last week of the school holidays is over now, and work starts once more tomorrow. It's amazing how quickly the time flies when you don't have to set the alarm for an early morning!
The weather has been simply glorious. Whilst we call this time of the year 'winter', our northern tropical winters are very mild. Our daytime temps. have mostly been around 25-26 deg C (77-79 F) BernieHhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04435004798656616711noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4481571533790905294.post-43577221856328887892015-07-06T11:25:00.000+10:002015-10-03T11:12:51.147+10:00What's On Show This Weekend ... July 4-5, 2015 ... mid-Winter.I've been so very slack in posting on either of my blogs this year, and the year is already half over!!! It's getting harder and harder for me to find the time to devote to blogging, so I think I'll just try and add a quick post on the weekends as a way of tracking what's on show in the various corners of my garden.
So ... what's on show this weekend?

It's been a hot and humid week. Temps have stayed pretty much around the 33 - 34 deg C mark all week, although thankfully the night time temps are a much more comfortable 24-25 deg C. We've had a few showers of rain again during the week, but we still haven't seen the monsoonal rains arrive yet.
Out in the garden, it's the usual stuff that's on show.

At the moment it's hot and humid. We've had some lovely rain during the month of January and even in this first week of February, but it's been intermittent and not up to the usual wet season standards. Still, can't complain. Today, January 26th, is known as our official national day ... Australia Day. It's an official public holiday, so we enjoy a long three-day weekend and celebrate what makes this country of ours so fantastic.
Just for the occasion, I thought I'd share some of the wonderful natives that either grow or live around my place. I'm so very privileged to live here.

Our Tropical Winter Has Begun.
Our three-day long weekend has seen a delightful couple of days with all-day, all-night drizzle and dreary skies. The Things You See Sometimes! So, hubby and I have been busy over this long weekend doing a few things here and there around the place ... repairing, tidying up, cleaning, weeding, planting, watering, mowing and trimming.

I was due to hop on a plane late on Sunday afternoon and fly back home for the last week of the term holidays. We're almost at the end of our first Autumn month and we're getting a few squally patches of rain coming over the hills today. On This First Friday of Autumn.
Yes Autumn has officially begun, but it would be hard to tell the difference between the end of Summer and the start of Autumn here. Some nights have been slightly cooler, but that's about the extent of it. There are no fabulous Autumn leaf displays around. The landscape is filled with evergreens.
So it continues to be hot and humid most days, with little or no rainfall BernieHhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04435004798656616711noreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4481571533790905294.post-89888026091830601542014-02-28T09:23:00.002+10:002014-02-28T12:01:31.427+10:00Friday Flower Flaunt ... It's been a grey, overcast, drizzly day today. Yes we have all loved the soft rain that's fallen over the last week, human and animal alike, but it's certainly not exactly what we expect during our wet season.
