Back From The South ... The Year In Photographs ... October 3, 2013

So I'm back from visiting with my son and grandchildren, and have finally found some time for posting.  It's been a lovely break, and I'm looking forward to the coming long weekend before the last term of the year begins.

Down in Brisbane, I managed to visit my favourite garden once again.  The Roma Street Parklands is a spot I love spending time at, and even more so if I'm lucky enough to take my grandchildren with me.

We got to spend a few hours there this time and we all had a thoroughly lovely morning.  In the photo above, you can see them enjoying a delicious drink of Russelia flower nectar.  That's something I told them about when we first visited the Parklands a few years ago.  Now, every time we visit, they have to stop and take a little taste!  It's become a bit of a tradition.

Anyway, as usual, I took loads of photos of various corners and plants at the Parklands, and I just had to share a few in this slideshow.

  1. It looks like a beautiful place and I'm happy you had a great time. It's the kind of place my girls don't want to visit with me because they say I take too many photos. :)

    1. I get the same complaint from my grandchildren, Gunilla. I let them take photos too, which helps lessen the complaints, lol!

  3. Glad you had a lovely bread with your family Bernie. Grandchildren are such a treat and blessing.

I nearly fell off my chair though - Russelia nectar tasting is a tradition in our family!! It all started when I was a very young child and was taught by my grandparents the joy of taste-testing the big (R) plants in their garden, and I have passed it on to mine.
You've inspired me to grow one in this new garden of mine!
    Have a lovely weekend Bernie.

    1. Grandchildren are such a blessing, Rose, I agree with you there! I'm so very glad I got to be a Grandma at such a relatively 'young' age!!!

It sounds as though our grandparents were all in on the secret of how fabulous Russelia nectar tastes. I was introduced to the nectar tasting tradition by my Grandma as well, just as you were introduced to it by your grandparents.

I'm lucky enough to have a few Russelias growing in my garden here, and when my grandchildren do visit me, taste-testing is always the first thing they have to do after giving my lots of hugs!!
