Foliage Follow-Up ... Caladiums on show.

I don't grow many Caladiums, but at this time of year I'm very appreciative of the few I have.  After a long hot, humid summertime, the garden looks rather drab and parched.  The Caladiums have risen from their slumber and are providing some wonderful splashes of colour in the shadier parts of my garden.

I'm joining Pam for her Foliage Follow Up meme.

  1. Ah now I can find the blog post on the g+ profile. I must have been too many days behind. These are pretty leaves and remind me of when I lived in P/NG. I am minding one in a pot for a neighbour. Hope it survives.

    1. Diane, so glad to hear I'm back on your google+ feed. Caladiums are one of the easiest plants to grow, so I'm sure you won't have any problems while you're babysitting one.

    1. They certainly do add a bit of colour and cheer to the garden, Lorraine. I don't think I've ever been without at least one.

  3. They are beauties for the tropical color they add. I've begun growing a few here for the same reason and they remind me of my mother who grew a lot of them.

    1. Shirley, they used to be such a common plant in gardens here. Now, they're not quite as popular as they once were, and I think that's a real shame.

    1. I agree, Donna. They are amazing plants. Unfortunately they're not a very popular plant any more in my corner of the world, and they're getting difficult to find in the nurseries here.

    1. They do have such fabulous colours and patterns don't they, Bettyl? I keep trying to add to the little collection I have, but I find them difficult to get over here.

    1. Sharon, unfortunately I don't know the varietal names. They're all pass-along plants and I have no idea what they're called. I'm rather jealous of you getting to plant 30!!! Here they're quite hard to find.

  7. I cant really discover when my caladiums do best - sometimes in the middle of the wet season they suddenly appear. I have noticed in the last couple of weeks that they seem to be showing their pretty colours again. I love the one in the top photo.

    1. Yes it's the same here, AA. They seem to just have a mind of their own, and pop up when they deem it necessary. I don't mind though. It's always a delightful surprise when I get to see them rising from dormancy.

  9. Every summer, I say I should have added caladiums to my containers. And every spring, I forget about them! This might be the year I actually do it--I loved your collection. Especially the second one, for some reason.

  10. I've never grown Caladiums, and I really should try. They will not last through the winter, but we do see the bulbs available, but we'd have to dig them up in the fall. Hmmm, given me food for thought, because yours are gorgeous!

  11. It is good to be reminded of how much lovely color caladiums can add to the garden, without any need of flowers. Thanks for joining in the Foliage Follow-Up meme this month, Bernie!

    1. That's the oldest Caladium in my garden, Dewberry. It's the most commonly seen one in gardens around here.
